BACKGROUND:
- This is the 30th year that the First Christian Church has hosted the Boar’s Head Festival.
- An epiphany is a revelation. Western churches celebrate the Epiphany season because it marks the moment when the wise men delivered gifts to Christ, therefore revealing to the world that he was the Lord. It is a mixture of old English and Christian tradition.
- The Boar’s Head tradition began in Oxford, England, during the 14th century when a young man in college overcame a boar’s attack by stuffing a book by Aristotle in the boar’s mouth. He was on his way to Christmas Mass and this victory was celebrated at the feast by presenting the boar as the main course.
- This is a celebration of Christmas in music, drama and dance.
