Why The Coastal Wave was created
When living in New York, a person doesn’t have to seek out entertainment, it’s always there. Living in Corpus, finding entertainment requires a little more work. TV, radio, newspaper, Facebook, websites, word of mouth are all resources but it often takes being in the right place at the right time. Seeing a specific ad; hearing a specific promo, talking to the right person at the right time. The information is out there, just not consolidated in any one place.
Music, Theater, Sports, Festivals, Community Events, Movies & More are happening not only in Corpus, but in Rockport and Port Aransas and other neighboring cities. The time has come for the creation of a premier calendar for the Coastal Bend. As a result, we now have The Coastal Wave. (www.thecoastalwave.com)
Created by JJ and Leslie Hart, The Coastal Wave is a great resource in many ways. Local residents can use it to see "What's going on". Tourists can look at it to help them plan their trips. People considering moving to the area can see how many events really go on here. Businesses, charities and other organizations can use it as a way to promote their events. Anyone planning future events can see if they'll be running in to any conflicts. Restaurants can advertise their daily specials. It can be used by hotels, by realtors, and by anyone looking to bring more people to the area. Having a comprehensive calendar will be invaluable to the Coastal Bend.
Using The Coastal Wave to promote an event has enormous advantages over other options. This calendar is specifically designed for events and for people who are already looking for something to do. Ads can be updated on a moment’s notice so if there are any details to be added, they can be changed right away. Ads can also be linked to the events site, so traffic can be driven directly to the venues.
Initially, The Coastal Wave is starting off as just a calendar. But there are plans for additional features. The Coastal Wave would like to add a section for "activities" so people can discover "What to do" in addition to "What's going on". Sections for businesses, hotels and restaurants will be added with the ability to rate them and write reviews. The Coastal Wave also wants people to have the ability to create their own personalized events calendars, add events directly from our site and have it send messages to their phones reminding them of what's coming up. This would also enable them to share their calendars with friends so they can attend events together.
Here are a few words from JJ
“We have found that as we've been adding events to the calendar, we are finding out about music and theater we otherwise wouldn't have known about. I'm sure as people look at the calendar, they'll have the same reactions. For example; many people who don't live on Padre Island will learn that the Island offers a great variety of music and entertainment. Similarly, people on the Island will learn about Aurora Theater and movie night in Cole Park.”
“We're working with many different organizations to help spread the word including the Corpus Christi CVB, the Park and Rec. Department, the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce and the Padre Island Business Association. We look forward to working with many more groups both within Corpus Christi as well as in the neighboring cities.”
“Leslie and I have already begun using the calendar for our own entertainment planning. We knew about many events, but having it right in front of us made it easier to plan. On July 4th, we went to the Rockport Art Festival, the Tall Ships in Ingleside, then came back for a boat parade on the Island. We've gone to several shows at Harbor Playhouse, music at Scuttlebutts, the Brad Thor appearance at Barnes and Noble and several events at Corpus Christi's The House of Rock. We had heard about the Spazmatics from a friend, and the next time they were in town, we got to see them. The Coastal Wave will make it easier for people to learn about events and more likely they will attend.”
